Privacy Policy
SyncDance (“we”, “the app”) is an app for iOS and Android that compares dance practice videos with an official choreography reference. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how to reach us.
1. Account
You can use SyncDance in two ways:
- Without signing in — your practices and videos stay on your device. We use a device identifier to enforce the limited guest allowance and to operate first-party analytics, but no cloud account is created for you.
- By signing in — on iOS with “Sign in with Apple”, on Android with “Sign in with Google”. We receive a stable user identifier and, if you choose to share it, an email address (name and profile photo on Android). This lets the app keep your membership consistent across devices. Cross-device video backup is available only with the Pro plan.
We do not send marketing email, and we do not share your email address with any third party.
2. Videos and cloud storage
Free and Basic are local-only plans. On those plans, videos you select, fancams you generate, and videos you export remain on your device unless you explicitly share them using an operating-system feature.
Pro includes up to 100 GB of private cloud storage for original videos, generated fancams, and exported videos. Cloud objects are stored under your account and are not accessible to other users. If server-side video processing is used, the processor receives only short-lived access and does not retain an additional copy after the operation completes.
You can delete a practice at any time from within the app. Deleting it removes its app record, local files managed by SyncDance, and associated Pro cloud files. Copies you previously saved to Photos or shared elsewhere are controlled by those destinations.
3. Subscription and purchase records
Apple or Google processes payments; we do not receive or store your full card or bank details. We store provider transaction identifiers, product, subscription state, renewal period, and a random SyncDance account token so the correct membership follows your account across devices and so one account cannot hold overlapping subscriptions from different providers.
4. Usage analytics, and data we do not collect
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we collect basic in-app activity events — for example, which screens you open and actions such as creating a comparison or exporting a video. These events are sent to our own backend over an encrypted connection through a first-party pipeline.
- We do not use any third-party analytics SDK.
- We do not use any advertising SDK.
- We do not use these events to advertise to you, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not access photos or videos other than the ones you explicitly pick.
5. Permissions the app requests
- Photos / videos (read) — to let you pick the clips to compare. On Android 13+ this uses the system photo picker, which needs no broad storage permission.
- Photos / videos (add) — to save the exported comparison video back to your library when you tap Export.
- Camera — only for the optional “record-along” feature, which records video of you dancing. It records video only; the microphone is never used and we do not request an audio-recording permission.
6. Data retention and deletion
Your exercises and uploaded videos are retained until you delete them. You can delete everything from within the app:
- Guest users — open the Me tab and tap “Delete data”. This removes the local SyncDance library from that device.
- Signed-in users — open the Me tab and tap “Delete account…”. This removes the account and its associated cloud data. You may be asked to re-authenticate first.
You can also email support@syncdance.io from the address associated with your Apple ID; we will remove your account record and all associated videos within 7 business days.
Deleting your SyncDance account does not cancel a subscription managed by Apple or Google. Cancel it in that store's subscription settings as well.
7. Children
SyncDance is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@syncdance.io and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify users inside the app.
