Privacy Policy
SyncDance (“we”, “the app”) is an app for iOS and Android that compares dance practice videos with an official choreography reference. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how to reach us.
1. Account
You can use SyncDance in two ways:
- Without signing in — tap “Continue as Guest” on the welcome screen. We generate an anonymous identifier on our server so your exercises and videos can be saved and reopened on this device. This identifier does not contain any personal information and is not linked to your identity unless you later choose to sign in.
- By signing in — on iOS with “Sign in with Apple”, on Android with “Sign in with Google”. We receive a stable user identifier and, if you choose to share it, an email address (name and profile photo on Android). This lets you access your exercises from any device signed in with the same account.
We do not send marketing email, and we do not share your email address with any third party.
2. Videos you upload
When you create a comparison, the two video clips you pick are uploaded to our private cloud storage and processed by our audio-sync service. Each clip is stored in a folder scoped to your user ID and is not accessible to other users.
The audio-sync service receives only a short-lived signed URL to download the clip; it does not retain video data after computing the offset.
You can delete an exercise at any time from within the app. Deleting an exercise removes the database row and the underlying video files from storage.
3. Usage analytics, and data we do not collect
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we collect basic in-app activity events — for example, which screens you open and actions such as creating a comparison or exporting a video. These events are sent to our own backend over an encrypted connection through a first-party pipeline.
- We do not use any third-party analytics SDK.
- We do not use any advertising SDK.
- We do not use these events to advertise to you, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not access photos or videos other than the ones you explicitly pick.
4. Permissions the app requests
- Photos / videos (read) — to let you pick the clips to compare. On Android 13+ this uses the system photo picker, which needs no broad storage permission.
- Photos / videos (add) — to save the exported comparison video back to your library when you tap Export.
- Camera — only for the optional “record-along” feature, which records video of you dancing. It records video only; the microphone is never used and we do not request an audio-recording permission.
5. Data retention and deletion
Your exercises and uploaded videos are retained until you delete them. You can delete everything from within the app:
- Guest users — tap the profile icon in the top right of the home screen, then “Delete data”. This removes your account record, all your exercises, and all your uploaded videos.
- Signed-in users — tap the profile icon, then “Delete account…”. You will be asked to re-authenticate with Apple before the deletion is confirmed.
You can also email support@syncdance.io from the address associated with your Apple ID; we will remove your account record and all associated videos within 7 business days.
6. Children
SyncDance is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@syncdance.io and we will delete it.
7. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify users inside the app.
